iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Official Cases With Camera Control
Apple’s Official iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Silicone Cases: A Comprehensive Review
Apple has unveiled its official cases for the iPhone 16 series, featuring a special camera control button.
Case Tiers and Materials
Apple typically offers two tiers of cases for the iPhone: an entry-level silicone tier and a higher-end leather tier. Last year, Apple introduced a new material called fine woven, which was intended to align with their environmental goals. However, the fine woven material was not well-received by consumers, leading Apple to quietly discontinue it. Currently, only a few Apple Watch bands and MagSafe wallets are made from fine woven, which may also be phased out in the future.
Silicone Cases: Colors and Compatibility
This year, Apple’s colorful cases for the new iPhone are made of silicone. The available colors are:
- Starfruit Yellow
- Ultramarine Blue
- Lake Green
- Fuchsia Pink
- Stone Gray
- Plum Purple
- Denim
- Black
These cases are available for all four sizes: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. It’s important to note that these cases are not compatible with the iPhone 15 series.
Design and Features
Each case is made of 55% recycled silicone and features a soft microfiber lining that matches the exterior color. When you place these cases on your phone, a cool animation spreads across the display, adding a unique touch. Although I don’t have the iPhone 16 Pro in hand yet, you can see the animation on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with a fine woven case.
These cases support MagSafe, as indicated by the identifier inside. This means they work with any MagSafe accessories, such as Apple’s battery pack and various MagSafe chargers. For more information on MagSafe chargers, check out the linked video featuring some of my favorites.
Unique Camera Control Button
One of the standout features of these cases is the coverage of the new camera control button. This physical button on the iPhone 16 series is capacitive, requiring special materials to cover it, unlike the volume and side buttons.
Practical Considerations
While silicone cases have advantages, they can be tricky to get out of your pocket due to their sticky nature. They also tend to attract pet hair, which can be a nuisance, especially when filming. Personally, I prefer leather cases or those made from alternative materials. However, if you’re okay with silicone, these cases are a good option. They feel nice and the new colors are quite appealing. The covered camera control button is a nice touch that won’t be available in other cases for a while.
